I love playing my flute and would love to help you or your student on your flute playing journey. I am an enthusiastic, caring, and compassionate teacher.
Let’s see how I can help you!
“Sarah has been my daughter’s flute instructor for the last 7 years. Sarah is always professional and timely to lessons and provides the perfect balance between pushing our child to do her best to reach her full potential and supporting her needs, both musically and emotionally. My daughter has learned and progressed tremendously over the past 5 years and this is due to the tutelage of Sarah and her excellent teaching. We would unequivocally recommend Sarah to anyone interested in learning the flute!”
I enrolled my daughter in flute lessons with Sarah, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Sarah’s expertise and dedication to her craft are truly remarkable. Not only is she an incredibly talented flutist, but she also possesses a rare ability to connect with her students on a personal level. Sarah’s teaching style is both engaging and effective. She has a knack for breaking down complex musical concepts into digestible chunks, making them easy for my daughter to understand and apply in her practice. Her patience and encouragement have helped my daughter build confidence in her flute playing abilities. Furthermore, Sarah goes above and beyond to tailor her lessons to my daughter’s individual needs and goals. Whether it’s working on technique, mastering a challenging piece, or preparing for an audition, Sarah provides personalized guidance and support every step of the way.
I highly recommend Sarah to anyone seeking a top-notch flute instructor. Her passion for music and dedication to her students make her stand out as one of the best in the field.
“What I really like about Ms. Sarah’s teaching is that she adapts to the learner. This is really important because if you have a teacher with only one specific teaching style it might not fit you well. What I like about Ms. Sarah is that she will adapt to each individual student so they can be successful.”
“As an adult student who hadn’t played flute in over 20 years, I was initially nervous to start lessons. Sarah has been the perfect blend of giving me the autonomy I need while pushing me at the same time. I’ve learned so much about musicality that I never learned before.”
“I started taking flute lessons with Sarah as a returning adult student and it’s been a great journey. She went above and beyond what any teacher ever has in working with me to find a new flute. And she has not only helped me get back to a level of playing that I am happy with, but she always teaches me and challenges me to play the music I love.”

I’m a flutist who fell in love with music at a very young age watching my dad and his career as a very successful professional trombonist. I remember coming home one day and declaring that I wanted to play piccolo, but after some negotiation with my parents, I began playing the flute. From then on, I never looked back.
Before college, I was fortunate enough to study under several members of the President’s Own US Marine Band. However, it was while I was in college that I truly found my passion for performing. I studied with two amazing professors, Dr. Beth Chandler at James Madison University and Alison Brown Sincoff at Ohio University, and played in several ensembles, including Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Ensembles, and New Music Ensemble.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to be recorded on several albums. I’m particularly proud of my performances on The Ohio University Wind Symphony’s album, Color + Light, where I played as the principal flute and alto flute soloist on Michael Daugherty’s Winter Dreams. I’ve also lent my talents to Words That Sing in the Night, an album featuring William B. Yeats’ poetry in traditional Irish settings. Recently, I even had the opportunity to feature as a guest on episode 20 of The Music Educator Podcast, where I talked with Greg Childress about “Establishing Yourself After Graduation”
In addition to performing, I’m also an active music educator. I run a flute studio with approximately 30 students from Howard, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, and Carroll counties, and it’s been a joy to watch them succeed in various competitions, including Maryland Junior All State Band, Baltimore Symphony Side-By-Side Orchestra, All-County bands and orchestras, Howard County GT and Honors Band in Elementary and Middle School, and the Baltimore Symphony Student Soloist competition. It’s truly a privilege to help my students develop their musical talents and witness their growth!
When I’m not playing the flute or teaching, I work as a marketing manager and box office manager for The Columbia Orchestra, a community orchestra based in Columbia, MD. Outside of work, I enjoy Irish dancing, taking care of my plants, and working on DIY home improvement projects. As a passionate musician, I have always been grateful for the role that music has played in my life. But what I am most grateful for is the opportunity to share my love of music with others, particularly through teaching.
